They say writing is a solitary road. People often conjure images of a lone author, pounding away at the keyboard in a silent room, creating flawless, masterful words and worlds without any input or assistance from anyone. It is the author, and the author alone, on whom the book’s success rides.

But that’s (mostly) a myth! Everyone, from writers just starting out to multiple New York Times bestsellers, can use help. The benefit of a second pair of eyes and hands is vital to help your work become the best that it can be.

Which is why I offer a varied collection of author services to help you from budding idea to bestseller. Scroll down to get a brief overview of each service and to learn more.

Editorial Services

  • The most comprehensive form of editing, a developmental edit includes feedback directly in the manuscript along with a detailed editorial report, and is a crucial step in creating a cohesive and engaging story. A few of the areas a DE focuses on includes:

    • Opening hook

    • Overall structure and content

    • Plot holes

    • Pacing and reader engagement

    • Tone

    • Marketability

    • Character arcs

    • Believability

    • Point of view

    • Marketability and genre fit

    • Dialogue and voice

    • And more

This service is great for authors at any stage of their writing career, but particularly newer authors looking to “jumpstart” their craft with professional feedback they can carryover from one book to the next, and authors close to the pitching process who want their manuscripts to have the absolute best chances of snagging an agent’s attention.

  • An editorial evaluation covers all of the same areas as a developmental edit, with an eye for teasing out weaknesses to revise. The key difference with this service is there are no edits or notes within the manuscript itself, but you will still receive a detailed and comprehensive report at the end of the process to pinpoint areas for revision.

This service is geared towards big picture, broad stroke considerations regarding the content of your manuscript, great for those wanting a big picture overview, but aren’t quite ready for the scene-by-scene detail of a full developmental edit. Perfect for getting you on the right track to revision!

  • Have an amazing idea but not sure where to go with it? Stuck in the mires of plotting your next great work? Finished a book but don’t know where or how to start publishing or pitching?

A consult will give you the start you need to forge your own publishing path and create a personalized plan for your book and author journey, including brainstorming ideas, evaluating your career path, author brand, questions about the publishing industry, writing craft, and more.

Consult times range from thirty minutes to an hour. Request a quote for the current hourly rate.

  • For those preparing to pitch, a pitch package is your foot in the door; a way to catch that elusive agent's attention and get them requesting your book. I approach my query reviews with a triple perspective: as an author, agent scout, and editor, to give you actionable feedback and make it as strong as possible. Pitch packages can include one or many of the following:

    • Edit of your query letter

    • Edit of your synopsis

    • Edit of your first 10-50 pages (price determined by word count).
